Preliminary Investigations

A detailed desk study and walkover survey represents an essential first stage in the planning and delivery of a successful site investigation. This can yield invaluable information on the current and historical land use of the site, identify potential sources of contamination, and provide an initial understanding of the superficial and bedrock geology and groundwater conditions, which can be related to the physical and drainage characteristics of a site.

To facilitate this, Ground Check Engineers research both published and online data, including GeoSpatial mapping resources, which are used to build a preliminary conceptual site model for the planned development.

This forms the basis of a Phase 1 Ground Condition report and preliminary geotechnical and environmental risk assessment, which enables effective planning of the main investigation.
