Over water Investigations

Soft Sediment Sampling (Dredging)

Over Water (Inland)

Harbour & Near Shore Investigations

Although over-water work isn’t our main focus, Ground Check has the experience, equipment and expertise to support nearshore and inland water projects. We’ve successfully carried out combined land and over-water ground investigations for harbours, quay walls, bridge crossings, RNLI slipways, land reclamation, outfalls and pipelines, coastal and flood defences, and dredging or environmental improvement works in rivers, estuaries, canals and lakes.

For over-water operations we partner with a specialist marine civils contractor who supplies the appropriate platform depending on the project and conditions: a marine-certified jack-up platform, a purpose-built barge, or spud-legged floating pontoons. The platform is assembled at a suitable jetty, towed to site by workboat, and provides a stable working area for our drilling rigs, crew facilities and equipment/sample storage.

This setup lets us use standard ground investigation methods adapted for water-based work, including cable percussion (shell and auger) boring, sonic drilling, GeoBoreS rotary coring and in-situ CPTu (piezocone) testing. We can also carry out standard SPT tests in boreholes along with Shelby tube and piston sampling, plus specialist CPTu Mostap sampling to recover high-quality Class 1 undisturbed samples for laboratory testing.

If you have a marine or inland-water project that needs ground investigation support, get in touch—we’re ready to assist.
